Orkut Fighting Against Scrap Spam

(Published on The Social Networking Blog)

Apparently spammers have decided to make Orkut their home territory for annoying users by filling up their scrap books with links towards pornography or "get rich quick" schemes.

Google is apparently fighting back by not only warning users about these links but by surpressing them as well.

(Note: the above image says, "Warning: Please be careful when clicking on unfamiliar links in scraps or other parts of this site that navigate away from orkut.com.")

If a link is deemed suspicious by Google, the team will not only warn the potential victim but replace the link with a "SUSPICIOUS LINK SUPPRESSED" in bold.

Spammers have been using a variety of tools to "spam the masses" which many people have found to be very irritating. Although the war against spammers will probably out last the war against terror, it is good to see Google taking aggressive measures against them.

Update: Added text underneath first image to clarify what it said.
