India Users Increasing On Orkut?

Apparently it is not only the Brazilians who are crazy about Orkut. I have noticed a large number of Indians signing up with the forums, and at the rate that they are going they may soon surpass their American friends.

Here is a snapshot I took of the Orkut census on July 26th of this year.

And here is one that I took today.

When Google first launched Orkut, they were perplexed as why it attracted so many Brazilians (although it may have something to do with a popular yogurt named Yakut).

For some strange reason, Orkut is attracting the Indian population in large numbers, enough for some businesses to consider blocking access to the forums, and some comparing Orkut to a drug.

To my knowledge their is no Orkut sounding food / service / product that would make the forum's popular, but with a country boasting 16 national languages, I would not be surprised if one of them had a word that rhymed with Orkut.
