Did Orkut Take Down Google Maps?

I posted about the new Google Maps within Orkut recently, and apparently it seems down, at least on my end.

I receive a "Can't display a map because no user locations are known." message whenever I visit the friends map site at http://www.orkut.com/Map.aspx.

Google may have turned this off in order to protect the privacy of members, as I found it was very easy to locate the physical addresses of members, even if they adjusted their privacy settings to exclude certain friend levels from finding that info.

Although I miss the Google Maps feature, I hope Google will make it a little bit more secure, or give users the ability to opt into having their locations displayed on a map.

Update: Why maps may not be available, via Orkut Help:

The "friends map" is currently only available for some orkut users while we work to improve this feature. We're glad to hear that you're interested in this new feature and hope to have it available to everyone soon.

They are probably working out the privacy issues. I hope they include the "opt out" part that I mentioned above (lest they face a similar rebellion that happened over on Facebook).
