Saddam On Orkut

Aside from dating, hacks and discussions around technology, Saddam Hussein seems to be one of the major topics on Orkut.

With the execution of the former dictator of Iraq, some members are expressing joy or sorrow over the news of his life ending before the year was over.

Over in the United Nations forum, TicTac informs everyone of the news that Saddam is no more and calls for a beer.

Kristina disagrees, saying she would rather have Saddam rot in his cell than be executed. Sehtareh provides an interesting view of Saddam death and trial by saying:

I have vivid memory of Saddam's bombs dropping. I saw them first hand. I remember how enraged I was when I heard he had made a war memorial from the helmets of dead Iranian soldiers.

I wished him dead many times. But I would have been a lot happier person if he was hanged after a fair trial that exposed him for who he was. I dont want history to have any doubt about how evil he was, and the kangeroo court might just remain excuse for history to judge his fate.

There is also some discussion regarding Saddam's execution over in the American Politics forum, in which Brent thinks this event has made Saddam a god (note: Really?) in the eyes of the terrorists.

But the most interesting discussion seems to be in the International Relations community where Hugo has posted a humorous obituary (by Mario Benedetti) celebrating his death.

Interesting Note: I wonder what the Don't Kill Saddam forum is going to do now that their hero is gone?

Why did they kill him? For murdering thousands of cultural enemies? Didn't Bush do the same? Oh well, I'm just an apathetic observer.

TO EVERYONE---

What you see before you is something which you undoubtedly will never forget. It is an image that will stay within your mind

until the day you die - and your government will make sure of that.

I dare you to think outside what would be considered a normal american view on this event, and attempt to see it from another

angle. I dare you to ignore what you've 'learned' from the media about anything to do with 'the war on terror' including the Iraq

war. I ask you to look at it for what it truly is, from all angles, where the most can be made from seeing the event like this.

So, if I were to ask you why the USA decided to invade Iraq, you would probably respond with something along the lines of "to

kill that f*****g bastard, because he has killed ALL those people - and he's a nasty dictator!"

Now everyone, im not denying here that people are certainly entitled to their own opinions on whatever they want - I mean,

thats what 'democracy' is all about. It promotes freedom and equality - everyone is equal in their own rights. But I ask you now -

why is it that the USA jumps to 'deal' with a dictator in the middle east, when there are loads of others to bully in places like

Africa, for example? Live 8 existed for a reason - because millions are poor and starving - but also, indirectly, because many have

been killed by corrupt leaders.

I know that I am right in saying that Saddam played a part in mass murder - theres no question of that. But lets rethink here -

why aren't all the soldiers, generals, senior military, naval and airforce commanders from the Iraq army being executed too? Why

aren't the soldiers who took the lives of the population being killed? Why is it that the americans choose only to hang the leader

and not other significant war figures within the old iraqi forces?

I'll tell you why. The USA in reality does not care about democracy. Nor does it think that Iraq committed 9/11 - that was Al

Queada from AFGHANISTAN, not IRAQ. The only thing the USA cares about is its resources - the oil. Its funny isn't it? How

they've convieneantly infiltrated Iraq and now are moving on to Iran? Its so funny...the USA is gradually eating its way through

the middle east, and everyone thinks they are doing it to spread 'democracy' - when infact they are just forcing upon other

nations their way of life.

The government of the USA are determined to make sure that the image of Saddam facing execution becomes iconic to their

supposed 'success'. Its funny how a video managed to get leaked too...how helpful for a nation who is determined to set

Saddam being executed as a picture for the world to see. There is a reason it was broadcasted on CNN and the internet - think

about it. Its perfect to make their sucess a visual picture - 'an important milestone' - but for what reason?

Saddam may have killed people, many people. He met his fate - and was hung. He was HUNG. Well done for bringing yourself

down to the same level s the people you are supposedly fighting. Kinda proves the argument is flawed. Its all very well having

Bush refuse to comment, and the senior american general in Iraq insist that the americans had 'nothing to do with it' - you

INVADED their country. You have everything to do with it. Its what you've been striving for - to defeat Saddam and have him

killed. Its irrelleveant how - just as long he's dead. To defeat what you see as a threat - that is what you perceive to be evil. If

he'd cut off your oil - you would have suffered. Alot. I ask the americans - why did the american government get so annoyed

when Saddam sold a huge batch of oil in Euros and not in Dollars? It might have something to do with the fact that if it is sold in

dollars - the americans have control of the money. Once they lost control - they got pissed off. Funny that...

Well guess what. Saddam is a martyr now. Violence will therefore escalate, especially against soldiers in Iraq. Those fathers,

sons, nephews, uncles, brothers and friends will be at even more risk now. All those people have more of a chance of dying

because of what you're government has done. You're government is killing its own people and others.
Then the whole universe, by the looks of it.

So remind me once again....Saddam was executed for killing people....?

You hypocrites.
