First off, Discount iContact coupon code for magellangps.com? Many thanks for any answer. Second question of mine... Hi,.

I am trying to design my first iContact site and was just wondering how everyone felt about an into or welcome page. I know there are some really cool flash pages but I am on dial-up now so I usually end up skipping them. And some of the static onesyou know the ones where it just says "Welcome to blah blah blah" and after the entire page (which is usually a huge graphic) loads there is only one navigation button that says enter. When I was on DSL these didn't bother me but now they just end up pissing me off and I leave without going further into the site..

So what do you think? Are they important to have?..

Yea, there are plenty of iContact online promotional codes out there. Spiffy chance to save cash on iContact now. I suggest you to sign up for their email list so you can receive notification of their newest promotions. They usually send once a month or 2..

I think in general intro pages are a bad idea. I don't mind them on design sites etc... since some have really nice work, but other than that they take away from the site..

As a designer it's important to realize that what your visitors are looking for is content, that meaning information. Having a bunch of shapes zooming around your iContact site name won't really help much....

An "Enter" page can harm your search engine rankings, as Google counts the clicks-to-a-page from the starting page of the site. Having an Enter page adds one more click and knocks 20% off all of the internal pages page rank..

You are better off having an introduction page that explains what you are about, but which also contains all of the main iContact site navigation, as opposed to the alternative structure which is to have an introduction page with an "Enter" button which you have to click to get to the first part of the content. Leave the latter type of iContact site structure to p0rn sites and the like...

The only situation that I can see a purpose of an intro page, is when you have a broadband and a lite version....

Or maybe with a choice of language...

Thanks for all the opinions. My iContact site will be for PSP tutorials that I have written. Other than to have this intro page with a link to the tuts I am at a loss on how to proceed..

Would someone take a look at.

The first page of my site.

And tell me if it should stay or go and if it ticks you off waiting for it to load? Would you want to proceed to the tutorials or are you too ticked off by the load? Would moving the link to the top left corner instead of the bottom help? (Maybe I should post this in the review section???).

As giz said try and incorporate an intro section into your main page..

Apart from the possibilty that it may hurt your rankings (actually most fo the time search engines results (serps) will link to the relevant page for a persons search query, and not to the intro page as they generally ahve no info or relevance, not everyone enters your iContact site by the front door)..

I also try and remove any possibility whatsoever of making a visitor leave or not enter your site, if an intro page may have that affect - get rid of it, but that's just me.

Yeah give the review section a go, lots of helpfull people their just waiting to give you their opinions.

Even for a choice of language I wouldnt ahve an intro page, make the default page the most popular language and have very clear language selection options on it...

Flash is a big no no for me... I wish it would die soon!.

Other than that... a splash page can be good if your iContact site has many different content areas. Forum, Articles, News, Galleries etc etc.

You can then use a Splash page as a common entry point for iContact site updates and news for example. It would make me happier if I visited your iContact site often..

If you stick to just tutorials then maybe ditch the idea and cut straight to the chase...

I would get rid of the splash page, and go for something that links directly to the tutorials (or sections containing) - and as Entimp suggested, you could display news and other info about the iContact site on there as well...

Don't forget that search engines cannot spider or index flash content, nor can they follow flash links...
