I WANT to like it. maybe I shouldn't have eaten it after my salad..

It was an afterthought..

Anyone else feeling seasick after eating coconut oil. the kind I have is: international harvest's certified 100% organic raw extra virgin in a glass jar...

Ye, however you might wanna make sure and wait for another commenter to confirm this as I am not very confident. Better yet, why don't you call the Medifast guys because they can give you an answer better...

VeganForLife suggested to me to eat something immediatley after taking it. Like a banana or something. That helped me. But now I just put a spoonful or two in my morning GS...

Do you think 2 tbsp is too much at once? I usaully do that and chase it with some apple juice...

Coconut oil is something many need to build up to...if a tsp makes you feel ill start w/ 1/2 tsp for a few days/week and then increse. I had to do this and it worked great. In the beginning I overdid and thought I would be sick for sure!!!..

I went through the same thing, everytime I would have some, even a little bit I would get soo nauseaus.

Pretty gross, but then I started trying other brands. Right now I use Artisana Coconut butter - it's the oil and the "meat", so theres fiber it it. It tastes really really good, right off the spoon good!.

I'll use the other brands for making stuff though..

If you can't find it in your local hf store, Alissa sells it at a great price. definitely give it a try before you give up on coconut oil all together!..

I'm with Angelina. The coconut I was using made me gag when I smelled it much less put it in my mouth. I just thought I didn't like coconut oil. Then I tried Alissa's and it was DELICIOUS. I have no nausea at all and the taste is divine. Maybe give another brand a try. Good luck!..

Thanks everyone. I won't give up. NEVER!.

I refuse to let a little oil beat me! haha. I ended up just going to bed early to ease the tummy trouble..

Thanks for the feedback! I have this entire jar...it will probably last me forever...

I really want to try the coconut oil too. Do you get the same benefits if you blend it into a smoothie or juice?..

Yeah, id love to try the artisana too sometime...question is, if ive had no luck with the nutiva brand helping me lose weight or fixing my thyroid, even when ive been choking it down, is the artisana gonna be a waste of money cuz does this mean coconut oil just doesnt work for me?.

Ah well, at least my dog likes the nutiva if I cant finish the bottle.

You may want to try putting it in the fridge so it gets hard, and just chip off a chunk. Also I think it was starfire who puts a tiny drop of agave on the oil before popping it in her mouth to make it more pleasing. I take mine first thing before eating in the am, and then right before brushing my teeth at night - which works for me. So perhaps before you eat would be better???.

PS. Alissa's brand is the only one I've found that doesn't smell/taste rancid. She sells a small bottle and a large one so you could test it out without the mega $$ big bottle...

It doesn't have to last you forever if you whip up some yummy treats with it...I still use nutiva in recipes (its cheaper than the artisana!)..so find some chocolatey recipes and you're set!..

My two cents worth. I consider any raw product (including coconut oil) and produce to have a short shelf life. For that reason I try to buy in the smallest amount that I can reasonably make work. This results in more trips to the store but fresher product and is worth it to me...

I mash mine up with a banana or papaya - I cant have it straight either...

Nope... not me.....

I just take it straight off the spoon.

... but I did start out with tiny portions... baby steps.... baby steps.... until I got used to it....

And as far as all the research I've read - coconut oil has a VERY LONG shelf life - like 2 (+) years and longer!!.

And hey - you could always make batch after batch of coconut oil fudge ... that omg so delicious fudge.... and that Medifast recipe takes a LOT of coconut oil - so you will use it up really fast - lol!!!..

Ive started taking it 1 tbsp mashed up with a banana in the morning, and ive been wanting to up it, and take another tbsp, but I was wondering it's supposed to give you direct energy, so why do people take it rightbefore bed?.

Wouldnt it make it harder to sleep?.

I have been looking for what the benefits of coconut oil are, because people have alluded to energy, weight loss etc. but couldn't find much. I saw some in the store the other day and wondered if it would be worth it to get some since people have been saying it makes them nauseous. I know there are recipes that call for it, but haven't gotten that far yet. Thanks...

Coconut oil is suppose to make you feel fuller longer and give you energy. I would take it early in the day or mid day to get over the hump before supper...

There is a theory about why you might feel sick when you first start having CO. CO helps rid overgrown yeast in your body. When you take something that does this (oil of oregano, coconut oil) you will have yeast *die-off* and you will feel a little sick. That may be why some people feel sick eating it in the beginning and then as the yeast die-off goes away (b/c you are getting rid of the overgrowth) then you no longer get the sick feeling...

That is what I wanted to hear actually...i had a feeling it was doing something in side...i just wasn't sure what..

I am going to keep trying it in tiny doses before my GS, I think...
