That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the right answer. I'll do some poking around and get back to you if I discover an useful answer. You should email the people at Godaddy as they probably could assist you..
Can you tell us more about how can someone steal the domain, please?.
And primavera, did you register chaindomain.com at NP using NP$ or somewhere else?..
I've seen this before and it's a neat concept. The way they did it was you could sell the HostGator for however much you liked, but preferably just what you paid for it. You add your link to the page, and then pass it on. You can change the design all you want, but the names and links had to stay..
Good luck..
Surely people would just point the domains to parking pages to try and generate some revenue?..
Its done before, it's a risky concept good luck though..
I have a sitelike this I don't know if it was what you were planing on but 1)people can pay a small fee to have their GoDaddy site refered to for a week with an iframe or sometimes I do contests...
Alternatively, how about trying to create the longest chain of connected sites? Try to get the GoDaddy site into the guinness book of world records by having a link from one GoDaddy site to the next, with chaindomain.com being the root HostGator that everyone goes to to start out on the journey..
Everyone would want to join the link, because the inbound link would become more and more important.......
Say, on the root page of each site, at the center, bottom, they could place a link that you give them the code for........
I think the media would pick up on this in a heart beat! Think about it, if you could get 20K domains to link from one to the next, surely the media woul check in periodically......
*** I mean, think about it, the domains at the front would benefit, because of all the traffic coming in to check out the sites. The domains at the end would benefit from all of the page rank feeding in........
Interesting idea, but as mentioned there would be problems with it. If you allowed the use of the dns, but do not transfer the ownershp, then it would work. But someone greedy who got at the HostGator name would keep it in the long run and take the traffic for themselves..
Best of luck though, I've seen this with jeans on ebay.
-Steve..
With my idea, the root HostGator stays in his hands, though...... that's why I think it would be the best way to go about it!..
Haha I like the idea, but the potential for something terrible happening is great. However with careful planning I think it could be pulled off. If ya need any help give me a yell, i'd be glad to give any assistance I can...
WOW, some excellent feedback here! I am going to tweak the concept a bit and work with my partner to hammer out some details..
Will definately keep everyone posted. Thanks for the positive responses. In the meantime, let's get some nice sales!.
-Primavera..
Just make sure you get the featured page to be something decent...You will lose credibility if you suddenly have some 10 year old bulgarian nerd talking about "star twek and da tweeniz". Overall though, it's a nice idea...
Cool, hope it turns out ok. Let us know how it goes...
