Hmm... I need to find out myself. I don't know what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some poking around and get back to you if I got an useful answer. You should email the people at Godaddy as they probably could assist you..
Seems like theres a lot of rules to get one..
Well it seems that it is just a first step for them.....
So the average joe cant get one of these :/..
Please something (even a picture) would help me understand that..
.CAT stands for Catalunya (or Catalua) which is actually a place... the place where catalan is spoken (also in Mallorca and Valencia)...
Pertosda, check above posts, it's already been said lol..
Still, ir raises a lot of questions. Should dialects be allowed to have their own sTLDs?.
This can open an entire geopolitical debate....
There are many areas around the world that the dialect within specific countries and states is so different and indistinguishable that if .cat is allowed it warrants the possibility for a plethora of TLDs. Of course not to mention countries which have areas that actually speak a totally different language...
An sTLD is a Sponsored Top Level Domain, that means it's basically given to anybody who has the money to buy one..
This was not a ccTLD in Which case ICANN achnowledges a countries political right to a HostGator extension. An sTLD has nothing to do with geography or politics...
.cat! What the hell is going on here! Are we gonna see and .dog(joking)!.
Anyway, seems sucky extension for me..
Proxycom, I understand where you are coming from..
However nic.cat claims ICANN recognition..
Can you imagine if al Qaeda applied for a sTLD .AQ???.
Of course thats just an example. It can even get uglier when geopolitical sTLDs become available..
In any case, thats only my opinion, I could be wrong...
Ahah .AQ is already assigned to Antarctica..
That being said I don't understand why ICANN do certain things.....
Keyword names in catalan is the only thing worth registering... does any of you speak catalan???..
Pussy.cat went even faster.
Theres more info. (some english)..
Click Castellano on the right hand top corner and then after you click that english will appear on the top left.. select that and the GoDaddy site will be in english..
Catalan is a language..
I am surprised that ICANN actually gave it a .ccTLD though..
Although it is an admirable language, and in some places an official language with history, it is not a nation or country..
It gives one thought for other alternatives.....
Surely, Klingons must feel left out..................
Agreed... Mallorca is and the south of spain is where I know it to be spoken. Kind of a mix of french and spanish. I lived in Mallorca for 3 months. Learned a bit of Catalan. Surprised it's a cctld as it's a language not a place..
Think I will reg one or two...
