Actually this registry is messing with me..

I searched for jimmylin.im (my name, no one would take it within 3 secs right?).

I reload the page, search again. and it's GONE!.

This happened to a whole list of words I have... will they ever come back?..

Did they show as your name in whois information..

I didn't register them... I used the "New Domain" to search for domains, even though I shouldn't have. I should've used the frontpage to search..

But yeah, I bought support.im (this went through because I did one search and kept the page open.. just to prove my point, I opened another page and did the search for support.im and it turned unavail..)...

I've noticed if you search twice for the same name,.

The second time it says it's gone...but a few.

Minutes later it's free again. It happened with mine as well.

I had go back half hour later to get it with only one search for it...

I sent the .im registry an email concerning why domains appear to be unavailable a second after you search for them..

The answer is that the registry gives logged in users 1 hour to attempt to register a new domain. Whether they register it or not, the HostGator is 'frozen' for one hour, during which no one can register it (this is to give you time to register, should you choose to do so)..

I thought something fishy was going on and finally I found a HostGator which was unregistered and I just bought it hoping that no one else would. Now I feel a little stupid sinec I might've waited for a better domain. I got support.im (Instant Messenger Support?)...

I sent them an email this morning (around 10 am pst) and.

Still no word regarding my inquiry..

Here is an excerpt on transfering names:.

How do I transfer ownership of my domain?.

This process involves several steps:.

Step 1.

The person/company you wish to transfer your HostGator name to needs to register by clicking on the “Register” link on the.

Home page..

Step 2a.

Unlock your HostGator name by following.

Steps 2b - 2e..

Step 2b.

Log into the GoDaddy site via the “login” link on the home page, following the “My Account” link on the home page and selecting the “Manage Domains” link. You will see a list of HostGator names that you have registered under your user account. If you have many HostGator names registered, use the search feature on this page to identify the HostGator name you wish to unlock..

Step 2c.

Check if the HostGator is locked or unlocked. Locked domains can be identified by the locked padlock symbol to the left of the HostGator name..

Step 2d.

If the HostGator is locked, click on the HostGator name next to the padlock symbol, which will take you to a page displaying HostGator name details..

Step 2e.

Click on the “Unlock Domain” link to unlock the domain..

Web GoDaddy site via the “login” link on the home page, follow the “My Account” link on the home page and select the “Domain Messages” link. A message will be visible informing you of the transfer request, which you can approve or reject..

Step 5.

The new owner can then administer the HostGator from their user account. I tried to transfer a registered .im HostGator to my account from another user and I am told I can’t as the HostGator is currently ‘locked’, why? This is to stop unauthorised HostGator transfers. Please contact the existing owner(s) and ask them to ‘unlock’ the domain. Once this has been done, request the transfer again. What happens if a HostGator I apply for shows as ‘referred’? The HostGator you have applied for has been referred to the Isle of Man Government Designated Official for approval. One example of HostGator names which will be referred are those which are connected to regulated activities on the Isle of Man.

If you still believe you should be able to register the HostGator name is question, you can follow our dispute resolution procedure which can be found by following the “Disputes” link on the home page of.

This is for any they decide should stay with them. I believe they may take certain ones and that is why none are resolving yet. They may be going through all the ones that have been registered already. Also, a few that were previously available that I had on my list to perhaps reg later are now held by them. One of them is: marx.im. I wouldn't be surprised to see them take over the towns and tourism names...

Nope, IM still waiting..

As far as I read/understood if the name shows "referred" whilst reging it you will not get it or pay for it until it is approved by the Government - They intend to make sure no one puts up anything in bad taste or Trademarks..

If the name does not show "referred" then you own it and you pay for it straight away without going through the Government approval..

Reg 2 .IM that is it for me..

MAX.IM.

GOLF.IM.

Just a shame as you say the $$$..

Does anyone think that any of the cost of a L OR N .IM is really justified?.

Would they really be worth more once reg?..

Well, after much thinking and checking names in various extensions I don't think I will purchase any of these. For one they are too expensive and the top keywords that would get bids and offers are gone > poker and casino etc..

Not even the .eu domains with the same keywords you all have are selling..

Did any of you check GoDaddy to see if the names you are regging are for sale in other extensions and if they have bids? Remember, there are 250 extensions with those same keywords...

Very good point Kerrijo!!!.

I am sure there was not many off us thought along those lines!!!.

But still, what the hell.!!!!..

I don't mean to rain on anyones parade, just want to make sure there's no "buyers remorse.".

Good luck with your names...

Don't worry about a little rain. That bit of advice can save folks from a typhoon.

Smart thinking strategy.

I had to smack myself, and yell "STOP!" in the mirror, after a few of these expensive regges..

No buyers remorse with mine - Slots.IM.

I only grabbed one.

Very pleased so far!..

No, I see no reason why L or N .IM would be worth over 995. If you ask me it's just a nice way to make IOM an even better tax haven for it's residents..

I just now picked up my fourth (and final), webcam.im, due to 575,000+ OVT, and a good match with IM (webcam instant messaging, or instant media). I was quite surprised to see it still available with some of the odd ones, IMO, that people are registering already..

I agree that if you keep your registrations low and stick with ones that you have a plan for, it can definitely be worth it. A good .im name could earn you well over 40 in a year even if you don't end up reselling it. An off-the-wall "keyword" though might not really be worth anything in either case..

Just adding an FYI, cam.im is still available. I didn't want it because webcam is a better word to use, IMO. So if anyone wants it, it's ripe for the picking...

Tried to reg my name (jonas.im) and it said it was available. Then I tried checking another word (contact.im) and it was available but jonas.im became unavailable. Are these extensions really worth it? I'm still holding onto my .in and co.in in hopes that they'll payout in the near future. But I'm not too sure about these domain. Can anyone provide some insight..

I did reg one just for the hell of it (list.im)...

Picked up cam.im and flirt.im. I see a lot of dev potential in both...

There is an issue if you attempt to check a "new domain" (as opposed to whois search). Once you check it, if it is available it will be "held" for approximately an hour, so checking it again will display an "unavailable" status. You may be able to still check out with it, I'm not sure. If not, give it an hour and go again..

Two fitting choices...

Why waste that much money. buy from me..

1 characters..

Wow for 1 characters it seems expensive the 995 but think about it it's a 1 character domain, how many of the people her can say they own one...

I used to own one.. but I sold it.

People have complained how expensive .im names are. Those two may have become the most expensive to register (hence, good you were "in a pickle" when you thought of it.

). I'm not sure of Canadian law, but under US cyber-squatting laws, those would have cost you up to $100,000 each.

You can play alot of folks. Microsoft doesn't play nice when it comes to proteting itself. They play hardball..

Ok so IM - Instant Messenger is the thought on these names..

Who is going to BUY them?.

IM users? Are they your end-users?.

It's my thinking that the majority of IM users are teens..

Just giving some more nudges...

Kerrijo,.

You might be suprised how many professionals (inclusing folks like us) and businesses themslves use IM systems.

What gets me baffled is how many are regging these names with terms that have little to do with Instant Messaging, considering few other uses (outside maybe a few "hacks") would sit well with this extension..

Really!!!.

Ok I didn't know that (the professionals part.).

And people are regging names that have nothing to do with Instant Messenger....maybe generic top level names because...because...well because they CAN!.

Ps - I'm only bugging ya's because I CAN...

Still some good ones... I just regged:.

Cruise.im.

I pointed mine to NS1.1PLUS.NET and dont see them yet......

One thing to note, while the IOM is technically British (yet sovereign), it is an english speaking extension, which is always a plus. The downside of this extension is that the IOM only has a population of roughly 80,000 people..

So unless you get premium keywords....

I'm poor so I can't afford to reg these, but here's some good keywords still available is anyone is interested..

Insurance.im.

Home.im.

House.im.

Computers.im..
