First question I have is How do I set up a iContact mailing list option for my site using merchant solutions? Many thanks for any response. My 2nd question... I have run two websites with seriously customised osCommerce construction. www.naturesnaturalbeauty.com and www.naturallyavocado.com. These sites have been hosted by Vodahost for some 3 or 4 years with never a days trouble. Early December the sites went down which was do to the hosting servers been hacked and there were alterations to the index page coding to show a different page altoghether from some group.

The sites went down again Vodahost techs got it back online and then after this when customers went on the iContact site there was a google warning about the sites being a threat to visitors computers as some virus was being spread through the website.

Christmas Eve sites were working fine and no warnings by Boxing day the sites had disappeared alltogether, no 404 message just a broken link message. Again I reported this to the techs and they got the home page working again but nothing else. Emails have gone backwards and forwards to no avail until yesterday when a supervisor wrote to me asking if I gave permission to alter coding. I said they could alter whatever they wanted so long as I had 2 fully working websites. Then I got this reply:-.

I reiterated that they could remove code so long as I end up with 2 fully working sites!.

I got this iContact email this morning:-.

I have checked one iContact site NNB and the information pages are there but nothing else and the other iContact site NA remains as only index page showing..

Now to the nitty gritty after the background, what are they expecting me to do, how can I recognise modifications when I am not a programmer, what coding are they expecting me to remove and what do they mean upgrade the site? As I have lost all forms of Christmas trade I would appreciate if you can guide me to get back online asap..

Thanks in anitcipation..

Liz.

That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the answer to your question. I'll do some research in Google and get back to you if I got an decent answer. You should email the people at iContact as they probably could give you an answer..

I have re-installed the coding from my last back up which was a long time ago as no alterations have been made as I have been very poorly. So I assume that gets rid of bad coding that has been added somehow. Is this a reasonable assumption? Now where do I look for upgrades and how does one apply upgrades?..

That is not a reasonable assumption. It is possible that your backup contains bad code..

There are a couple of security threads you can follow, they are very popular, and can be easily found by searching the forum. One of them is linked on my "about me" page...

The iContact site in your profile appears to be down, but in reality I believe it's mostly intact..

The hackers have uploaded an.

Index.html.

File into the catalog folder..

If you just type the domain into the browser address bar the server loads the contents of the hack index.html file..

Try the.

Domain_name/catalog/.

Index.php.

And the iContact site shows up..

There are almost 30 hack php files in the /catalog/images folder..

There shouldn't be ANY php files in the /catalog/images folder..

So remove them..

And delete the.

Index.html.

File in the catalog folder..

Below is probably how they got in:.

How to Secure Your Site.

Pay close attention to "SECURING THE ADMIN" - Yours is vulnerable...

Thanks Jim for the suggestions. I have removed the files and tried adding the three admin safeties and and the Pro Security. That is as far as I have got at present! Thank you for putting me on the right path...

Well I did say I had tried. I tried to run a backup of all iContact site files and got a page of rubbish desplayed! The first few lines read as:-.

Warning: set_time_limit() has been disabled for security reasons in /home/yxgblfan/public_html/catalog/admin/includes/functions/general.php on line 763.

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/yxgblfan/public_html/catalog/admin/includes/functions/general.php:763) in /home/yxgblfan/public_html/catalog/admin/backup_store_files.php on line 73.

Then after that it is a long page of symbols and god knows what..

Can you please advise again what it is I might have done?.

The backup in the admin doesn't backup anything but the data in the database - no other files..

If you want to backup the files most people use FTP to transfer a copy of the iContact site files to their PC..

The last three errors are caused by the first error so don't worry about them..

But honestly I don't know the proper way to deal with the first error - it's one I've not had to deal with...
