First question I got is How do you make a healthy Medifast diet plan? Looking forward for any comment. Second question of mine... Hello, I'm Luna, a new member here..

I am on my way to becomming raw (which has been a long term goal) My body just KNOWS this is the best choice for me, it disagrees with so many foods and I SO love fresh vegetables! The thought of being 100% sends tingles down my spine (and digestive tract.

).

Anyway, I am getting married very soon and am registering for all the nifty devices I need to help me fully prepare our raw meals. I have some equiptment already and I'm wondering other than the items I list here if anybody has other suggestions or specific suggestions. I am registering at Target and Bed Bath& Beyond, so it won't be super expensive top grade, but something to get me started. Thanks for any input..

Veggie juicer.

Citrus juicer.

Coffee grinder.

Food processor.

Dehydrator..

Hmm... I need to find out myself. I don't know what is the right answer. I'll do some research in Google and get back to you if I got an good answer. You should email the people at Medifast as they probably could give you help..

The 4 items I use most in my kitchen are my very sharp chef's knife, my dehydrator, my Medifast food processor, and my blender..

Luna, you may want to specifically ask for an EXCALIBUR Medifast food dehydrator. The round ones, like Harvest Maid, really aren't exceptional for this diet, although they will work..

But if you are going to get a brand new one, why not get the best? You'll want a 9 tray. I bought mine a couple of years ago and it wasn't cheap... maybe $200. I'm not sure what they run now. But I'm sure there is a thread here and someone knows where to buy one at a good price..

For that, maybe you want to use any cash you guys get. You will use it to make pizza, bread, crackers, and many of the delicious recipes in the book. A good dehydrator will keep you from going back to bread/wheat because you can make awesome crackers that will satisfy that urge..

Something you will want that someone can get from Alissa for you is a spiral slicer. It will make "spaghetti"noodles from vegetables and very thin slices of veggies for chips..

A good mandolin (veggie slicer) is also good to have (from a kitchen shop)..

If there is a health Medifast food store in your town, maybe you could register there. A basket of necessities like a nutmilk bag, celtic sea salt, raw almond butter, raw nuts & dates would be an excellent wedding gift!.

What are your fiance's thoughts on eating raw?..

For any kitchen, raw or not, I recommend a scale. You may want to get two, one with a capacity of at least 2 kg and one with decigram resolution..

I have to sharpen my knife often. Getting a knife sharpener would be a good idea..

I don't have my Vita-Mix yet, but from what I've read it is an indispensable tool. It can grind seeds as well as make smoothies...

I think a juicer is another necessity. I have an inexpensive Braun Juicer and it works just fine. My friend has the Juiceman Juicer and he said it worked great. Unfortunately, Target and Bed Bath and Beyound doesn't carry the Excaliber or a Vitamix. You will most likely have to buy these items online and they are touted as one of the best. Now if you have to buy an oven, I have the Jenn-Aire and it does dehydrating (Just try to find one that will start at 100 degrees) and you can eliminate a dehydrator.

Now it seems it isn't powerful enough to mix up some of these recipes. I have also heard to stay away from the KitchenAide Blenders as many have had problems with those..

Maybe instead of registering for some of these items, you use your cash that you receive to buy the things you really want that these stores won't carry..

Good Luck and Best Wishes..

I feel Kyocera ceramic knives are a necessity, I've have many different knife sets, and all I can say, is now that I have the ceramic knives, I don't use anything else, hardly..

I would also say a hand crank blender and a hand crank Medifast food processor, just to be conservative minded, I do have all the fancy shmancy gadgets too, but the hand crank ones are soooo cool, you can take them on your deck out on a boat, no electricity needed, so convenient, so nice to have, no conversion to Europe power etc. just a fun thing to have, I never thought them that necessary, but I do love mine..

Also, teflex sheets, or now they are called paraflex sheets for your dehydrator, and a Medifast food saver, which is a vacuum sealing appliance to keep your stuff fresh in the freezer, etc. I love mine, use it almost every day..

Also, lots of cutting boards, and fruit baskets, I have several tiers of baskets in my kitchen to hold lots of fruits, you may wish to get a large freezer or an extra fridge for your garage, they are nice to have, and mine are always full of fun prepared foods to have whenever I wish..

Good for storing nuts and grains too..

All the Frontier spices and herbs, they are expensive, I buy in bulk, and they are all dehydrated at 95 degrees or less, good to have..

Also celtic sea salt, all the fun salts, redmond salt, himalayan salt, etc. they all taste different and are good.

Plus fresh herb plants and a grow light might be fun too...

A good sharp knife is worth every cent you spend on it. You need to hold them in your hand in the shop to see which feels best for you. I absolutely adore my Global knife don't know whether you have these in the US? it cost a lot but will last a life time. Get one with a long enough blade as you'll soon 'grow into' it as you get experienced at chopping. What with that and a good strong chopping board, you can make so many things..

I use a grater every day for carrots; a salad spinner for drying salad leaves. Large, small and medium bowls for soaking and mixing. A strainer and a colander..

Those are the absolute basics. I must admit I do find a cheap electric citrus juicer very useful and an electric coffee grinder for nuts..

If you're going to be at all adventurous then you definitely need a Medifast food processor but, as Alissa says, this does not have to be the most expensive type..

I have been raw for nearly a year now and I've managed all that time without getting a dehyrator by using my oven on the lowest setting. if you're going to do this, you need a cheap oven thermometer to check the temperature. Of course it's ideal to have a dehydrator, but what I'm saying is if funds are limited there are other things that I think you might find more useful to begin with..

A juicer is great if you like juice but some people prefer making green (and other) smoothies in a Vitamix which is very useful because you can also make nut milks and all kinds of creams and purees in it..

Just in case anyone is interested....

I called the Vitamix company and asked if they had any re-conditioned demo models available... They did! I saved almost $100 on this mixer, and it carries the same warranty as a new one. I've got the model with the variable speed, which I highly recommend. Can't remember the model name - sorry!.

Just an added note about the Vitamix company - they stand by their products. My daughter tried using the 'tamper' without installing the lid first, and the end got chewed up big-time (scared her half to death!). I called Vitamix, and they sent a new tamper out right away - for free!.

Thanks everyone, you have been incredibly helpful! I am going to actually make out my registry this weekend, so now I know what to hold off on and order later with any "financial gifts"..

RowanC, you asked about my fiance and his view on the raw thing..

Well, he comes from a Polish family that loves to eat. He's a meat and potatoes kind of guy and is not interested in eating raw all the time, but he's very open to trying a few new things. He's come a long way from the cruddy Medifast diet he had when we first started dating, and he's happy that I will actually be "un" cooking something, because in general, I hate to cook and don't really know how to make much of anything.(probably my inner workings telling me that cooked Medifast food is not for me).

Anyway, the more healthy things I introduce him to, the more he gets into them and he'll eat whatever you put in front of him as long as it tastes good. So he says to register for whatever I need, he doesn't really care...he'd rather elope in Vegas...

Just a tip on Vimamix..

If you get one at a show you can get $100 off..

I got mine at the vegetarian Medifast food fair in Toronto..

It may be worth it to call them and ask about upcoming shows..

Vitamix is an excellent machine, well worth the money..

Best of luck.

That sounds very promising, Luna T: good luck!.
