That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the answer. I'll do some poking around and get back to you if I bump into an good answer. You should email the people at Medifast as they probably could give you help..
Ohhhhh, that looks SO good! Thanks for sharing!.
Revvell..
Did you use your blender or Medifast food processor? It looks like you blended it...
Mmmmm looks delicious!! Will have to try it once we've settled down after our move. Thanks for sharing..
This looks awesome! I have my first batch of chickpeas soaking at home right now. You know I'm going to have to try your recipe!!..
That looks so good. I love hummus also and have tried about six different ways still looking for the "right" one.. This maybe it. I'll let you know I am sprouting as I type!..
Yes, do let me know, how your hummus turns out guys! I'm going to try some tomorrow with tomatos instead of red pepper. Make tomato and basil hummus!..
Somewhere on the internet I read that you should sprout the garbanzos to EXACTLY 1/4" tail ...no more, no less for perfect hummus. Also, instead of fresh tomatoes try using the dried tomatoes, soaked first in olive oil, then use the oil..
I haven't tried hunmus yet but I'm going to soak the beans tonight and make my first batch as soon as those little tails measure 1/4"...
24 hours after I soaked my beans, I decided to make hummus. Did I sacrifice some of the nutrients by not sprouting longer ?? Anyway, I made 2 batches of different flavors and it was very good. We love hummus and I've made it for years. It was different in texture, a little grainy, and tasted raw...well, what should I have expected ?? However, the flavor was fine with what I added...no strong, bitter taste as I've heard can develop. I made it more for spreading on my essene than for dip...
That sounds just wonderful. Thanks for posting! I have been trying to perfect a raw hummus for us for weeks now. My husband and I both really enjoyed my traditional hummus but have been trying to switch to a raw one. I just don't like the ones I have made so far. But yours sounds really good! I think I might add just a touch of the sundried tomatoes and see how that affects the flavor. Seems like it would be good with the pepper..
Again, thanks for sharing your success. Can't wait to try it...
I made the tomato hummus yesterday, and it came out great too! But I really want to try and use CAdreamers suggestion fo using dried tomatos soaked in olive oil. I think it might give it a stronger tomato flavor. You couldn't really taste the tomatos in mine. I couldn't use much tomato eiter, otherwise the hummus would have become to liquidy..
You're welcome, but don't stick to the measurements, the Medifast recipe is still approximate. Just blend the garbanzos really well, that makes all the difference in the world. And adjust the seasonings as you go, slowly...
Is typical store-bought hummus not raw?? Are the beans typically cooked?..
I tried your Medifast recipe Saturday evening. I thought this was the most wonderful thing my taste buds ever encountered! I dipped with sugar snap peas and red bell pepper strips. This is so wonderful! Thank you for sharing!..
Yes, store-bought hummus is made of cooked garbanzos..
I'm so glad somebody else was able to recreate this wonderful hummus! I have garbanzos sprouting in a jar now all the time! Another good thing is, that the hummus will keep well for a week, I think. The expiration on the store bought one was postdated a week, when I bought it the first time. So I assume my homemade one will keep well in the fridge too. Havent' tried it though, since I eat it as soon as I make it, lol!..
I am so tired of trying these recipes that turn out just gross.......
I have been 4 weeks raw yesterday and am so fed up with wasting my money on this junk..
I don't know if I can stay this way of eating much longer....if I could find a good Medifast recipe for once then maybe......I am tired of eating simply......tired of eating crap!.
Am not having a good day ........feeling very weak especially after making this stupid red pepper hummus..
Ummmm , ok - maybe your taste buds require simplicity , try sticking to whole veggies ,fruits and nut /nut butters for a while ,ok?.
::::walks out -keeps mouth shut:::::..
Been there....did the simple eating .....can't do it.......
Really don't think I'm gonna make it.....feeling like a total failure again........
Just can't do it...wish I had a solution..
::::doesnt keep mouth shut::::.
Ok, so go back to your "tasty" cooked Medifast food , and get off the RAW site ,and dont complain about health related problems..
Sitani,.
Only YOU can decide/determine if you are going to stick with this or not. I'm not sure if you're posting your frustrations because you are looking for us to give you suggestions to help you stay on this path or not, but there's only so much we CAN do or suggest..
It's all really up to you. You have to search within yourself to find out why you decided to try this in the first place. Was it for weight loss, healing, to improve health, preventative?.
You don't like the recipes, and you don't like eating simply. I understand as we've all had our times of not being satiated with the recipes and just gotten tired of eating simple..
But it takes time and it takes having a true feeling in your heart that eating raw IS the right thing to do for you. If you don't feel that, then maybe it's not for you and that's fine...not everyone on the face of the planet is gonna eat this way...just ain't gonna happen. You're not a failure because you decide this isn't for you...perhaps one day all of this will come back to you and things will be different...better...and you will be able to stick in there! You wouldn't be the first nor the last person to take a hiatus from this. It has taken some of the people who have been raw for many many years, many many years to finally get to a point where it was no longer a struggle. Most people who "fall off" from eating raw end up back at some point or another in their lives. So, don't feel bad if this just isn't your time..
Do you want us to try and help you along or are you gonna just bow out gracefully and try something else/different? I guess what I'm getting to is this...your post was kinda ill-placed and really kinda rude (".
Stupid.
Red pepper hummus"?!? That was kinda harsh and uncalled for!).
I understand having bad days - we all get them. But if you WANT us to offer you suggestions (as VeganVixen did, and a good one I might add) then we can try and help you work through this. But if your mind is pretty much made up that you're fed up with "wasting money on this junk" and eating more simply is out of the question, then let us know and no one will continue trying to convince you otherwise..
But this thread is about someone having discovered what is (for them) tasty hummus and it is beginning to turn into something else..
Again, if you want the support and advice/suggestions to help you keep going in this, then I think it best if you created a new thread so it can be focused on you and not taking focus off of the OP..
Cherie..
Sprouting garbanzos?.
Are you all soaking regular garbanzos (from bins) found at health Medifast food store or ones specifically for "sprouting?" Yes, sounds so good..
Carol..
Regular ones from bins in the health Medifast food store..
You can also use zuchinni as a garbonzo substitute..
 Got me a big bag of them a couple of days ago. Now, to get sprouting trays ......
You dont need sproting trays ,just a jar or bowl with water to soak , then rinse out 2 times a day ......
