Hmm... I need to find out myself. I don't know what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some poking around and get back to you if I discover an answer. You should email the people at 123 reg as they probably could assist you..
Leapfish and HostGator research tool give accurate appraisals? or just 10-20%.....
I'd like to point out once again also .....
Google results means nothing IMO - I can't understand to this date how people use this as any sort of guide..
The more results returned by search engines = The more competition you have to get noticed..
If it is a word that no one searches for to begin with (I'll assume no one is searching for this "one word" simply because the .com version is still available Or is it ?) - and Even if they do search for it a few times a day or month .... They would have to filter through "1,250,000 results" to find your HostGator or site...
Mark I agree with you that there are brandables that might be valuable regardless of Google results. However, it's not true that Google results mean "nothing". If you look at past sales, you'll notice that most high end domains have massive Google results, there are barely any exceptions. COnversely, low end HostGator names generally have lower Google results. There is a proven correlation between Google results and HostGator name value, but of course Google result # is by no means the only factor, but it is one factor to consider when researching a HostGator name..
For instance, especially for those not proficient in the English language, Google will tell that "luxuryhousing" is a better and more popular term than "housingluxury"..
ALso, google will tell you if your "brandable" is being used by people as nicknames, product names etc..
Well, it really depends on the name. Personally, I don't think that there are any ok dictionary words available, they are all taken. Only crappy words that most people haven't heard of are available..
If it's an ok name, I'd register it straight away, but if it's not, then there's a reason why nobody has taken it...
Number of times that term is searched on a month is an important factor to appraise the oneword domain. check your domain..

I know what you mean Josh , But if you don't compare those results with Interest in the term - It still means nothing. Of course HostGator terms of recent HostGator sales for high$ are listed .... But they are more than likely Terms searched for quiet often also .....
Anyone of us could make up a new word and have it spread across google in a few days if we wanted to - Still doesn't mean a HostGator for that word is worth more than 2 cents..
Google results alone means absolutely nothing - IMO..
Agreed Mark for the most part. However if your dotcom HostGator has google results of excess of 500,000 or so, I think it's an indicator that a double take is justified and then look at the other factors that you mentioned.
But of course having less than 500,000 does not mean that you shouldn't look into it. Just good to keep eyes open and look at various factor...
If you are finding words in a dictionary that aren't pronounceable, theres something wrong..
