How likely is it that the person merely registered for $6-$8, parked it, got parked ads, and then sold it a couple weeks later for $500+? Does anyone do this regularly, or is it just a once-a-year stroke of good luck?..

I'm not sure about those names but if you know what you're looking for $500+ for $6-$8 names can happen often. I've sold a number of them for much more than that this year. Some were within weeks of registering and one was within 1 week of expiration so that can never be predicted. It brought near mid $xxxx. At times I would have taken $75 for it and two weeks before I sold it I turned down $500 on it even though I could have used the cash. Luckily my gamble paid off.



Like anything in business it's a numbers game. Thats not to say you should go out and register a whole bunch of names. I suggest doing alot of research. I've been doing this off and on for around 4 years now and still don't know what the hell is going on most of the time. lol Another suggestion since you are new is not to think your names are worth more than you would ever see yourself paying for them if you had the money and were the buyer. Another good rule of thumb is have a reason and purpose for every name you register. I generally won't register a name unless I can see myself developing it, use it for traffic, or a few other reasons I'll keep to myself...

How often does it happen that an undeveloped newly registered HostGator is worth only $50 or so as it is, but after 'development' of just a few basic links, colors, and formatting, involving no more than 2-3 hours spent, that the value jumps to $1000 or more?..

Kmg4, sorry but I think your dreaming, this can happen with big luck, but basically if it was like your saying, everyone would quit his/her work and start domaining. Im just quoting you now:.

1000$/3hr, 6hours of working/day, 2000$/day, 20x2000=40000$/month!.

Now you see. To be honest I would be glad if my newly registered domains were worth 50$!..

That is an exaggeration of what I said. I did not claim this is scalable as to form a 40 hr workweek..

All I asked was whether development can add value in this manner. If not, why would there be so much talk about development, and why would appraisals so often give a low price with the disclaimer 'undeveloped'?..

Dont get me wrong, I fully support developement, and I personally think thats the way to use a HostGator (mostly). BUT, as from what you say I got the impression as you would think you only have to put up a few links to a GoDaddy site and set a background and you get a 1000$ worth webpage. Sorry for the confusions...

I have several that I bought for reg fee and averaging $3-$4 a day. It doesn't happen often especially these days with all of the "tasting" going on but the names I mention were picked up in the last month so it is still possible. I'd love to share the names publicly but for one there's already too much competition and two I don't want a bunch of people screwing up my stats...

I have parked 50 domains that I have recently bought, and while it has only been under a week so far, the sum total of the 50 domains is $0.00. I would be happy to have made even 25 cents, but with $0.00, I am not sure if I am doing this properly..

What do you feel is the reason for the traffic? I doubt a xxx.web.com HostGator gets type-ins, so what induces people to go to that site, among the thousands available?..
