Featured Artist: Shweet Star

I am not sure if that is her real name (although I could be wrong) but today's featured artist is Shweet Star who can not only draw some fairly decent water drawings, but also create designs on vases as you can see from the image below in the bottom left hand corner.

Although her artwork is pretty good, I think Shweet should seriously consider selling some of her vases online, as you do not see too many artists in Orkut creating designs on pieces of furniture (or would a vase be considered a house decoration?).

Shweet is from Pakistan, and if you can check out more of her artwork on her album. If you enjoyed what you saw on her album (or are interested in hiring a vase designer) you can drop by her scrapbook and leave Shweet a message.

(Hat Tip: Water color painting lovers forum)

Update: Moved larger photo down slightly.

Featured Artist: Pallav Mazumdar

Alas, the Drawing forum never ceases to disappoint me! Pallav has posted some wonderful drawings of his art work in his album for the world to see.

Here is a snapshot of some of the images below.

Pallav has already framed several (if not all) of these pieces of art and these are some of the best sketches that I've come across while skimming through Orkut.

I like the shadow effects of the lady's cheek bones (lower left hand corner) as that little detail adds depth to the face. He also has another great sketch of a woman (not shown above) in what appears to be a fancy Hindu dress (what do they call those things again?)

Anyways, Pallav is from India and currently holds a Bachelor's Degree and if you enjoyed his artwork as much as I have, send him a scrap and let him know.

Featured Artist: Aamruta Deshmukh

Earlier this month, Aamruta requested in the Drawing forum for feedback regarding her art work (since she is a beginner). After viewing some of her sketches, I am wondering if she really is a beginner at this as she seems really talented at drawing faces (something I have yet to master myself).

Here is a sample of four of her drawings below in her album.

I like the way Aamruta portrays the moods of the individuals, as you can see the guy in the top right corner looks depressed, while the girl at the bottom looks like she can't make up her mind on which item to buy (so I am reading a little too much into the images).

She seems pretty good with shading, although it would be nice to see some of these images in color. (I wonder if she has drawn any?)

She has uploaded ten images thus far, and if you enjoyed what you saw feel free to let her know within her scrapbook.

Update: I forgot to mention this related topic. Apparently in the Oil Painters forum, there is some discussion whether art is "a creation or a talent." What do you think?

Featured Artist: Shone

In the Drawing forum, Shone has sketched some excellent pieces in his album. One way you can tell a good artists is how he draws people's eyes.

What I love about these images (shown below) is the fact that you can almost see a reflection of light in these people's eyes, matching what one would see in reality when you gaze upon someone's face.

Note: Original images were not uploaded in order to respect copyright laws

Shone is from India who describes himself as "a funloving easygoing guy" who loves food, music, movies and drawing. He has even more images over on his weblog, although I think he should consider signing up for Picasa Web Albums as Orkut limits users to 12 photo's.

Featured Artist: Rao

Rao (self portrait?) Now that Orkut is back up (at least for me) I can talk about some artwork that I stumbled upon in the Drawing forum. Rao, from India who enjoys graphic design (of coarse), tv commercials and cricket as long as India is about to win.

Here are some of his drawings below. (for a clearer screen shot please click here).

(Note: Original photo's not uploaded to respect copyright laws)

What I enjoy most about Rao is his "cartoonish" art that is not only fancy but fun to look at (especially the guy with the tie at the end). The sad part is that his best work is not located on his album, and in order for you to see that you are going to have to visit his site.

Update: Fixed photo.

Featured Artist: Riddhi Malhotra

Over in the Sketching forum, Riddhi has been asking for some feedback regarding her drawings, especially on the Harry Potter piece. Hailing from India, Riddhi seems to have some great skills with just a pencil, as you can see by some of her drawings to the right.

Although Riddhi can draw some animals, what I enjoy most is her ability to bring life to the faces of her creations, a difficult task for any artist trying to make a living off of their work.

Riddhi could make these great sketches even better by finding a way to add color to these drawings (although then they probably would not be sketches then, hence the point of this forum).

Either way I hope we get to see some more images from Riddhi and hopefully her studies at college will not take her away from sketching some more beautiful faces.

Featured Artist: Sanjay Kamble

While scrolling through the Drawing community, I came across these paintings by Sanjay Kamble that were quite breath taking.

(Note: Original photos were not uploaded in order to respect copyright laws)

Sanjay is from the UAE which has reportably blocked Orkut for some odd reason. His ability to display his paintings here may prove that to be a rumor, as he has some beautiful works of art to show the world.

Sanjay is currently married (sorry ladies) and enjoys everything from painting to reading to even "trekking" (does he mean this trekking or this trekking?).

My only regret is that Orkut limits his album towards twelve paintings, but hopefully if he has a Picasa Web Album we will get a glimpse of some more paintings.

Sanjay is looking for feedback on his posts, so if you have something positive to say (or useful feedback) visit his scrapbook and drop him a line.

North Korean Dictator A Film Critic?

(Note: I guess I should not be too surprised that blood thirsty people have their hobbies...outside of slaughtering people that is.)

I came across this post on Orkut Media which I found almost amusing. John Gorenfeld on 2400 Baud talks about Korea's favorite dictator's passion about acting and film.

Kim has also written a book on what's wrong with opera. I bought it on Amazon.com. 1974's "On the Art of Opera: Talk to Creative Workers in the Field of Art and Literature" is available from the University Press of the Pacific, along with "On The Art of the Cinema," which recommends that actors seethe with ferocious party loyalty as the only path to mastering their craft.

"Actors must be ideologically prepared before acquiring high-level skillsÂ…The actor requires an ardent love of his class, and a burning hostility towards the enemy," he writes.

I do not know how anyone could take this dictator seriously. Not only does he have goofy hair, (just like Hitler) but he also thinks he can win a nuclear war against the West. (note: no one wins a nuclear war Kimmy)

Getting back on topic, here are some of the reviews from Amazon (which were in my opinion quite appealing).

(via Gjergj Plazh "comecon") Reading this book by this great Korean leader and the best man of his country put me in true ecstacy. The depth of his work is so immense. Yet he is able to put the most complex problems of his country in so simple terms that one begins to wander if his career would be better off as a writer or a philosopher.

(via Greg Mills "Greg") First off, I'm a huge fan of Mr. Jung's work.

"Let's Work On Doubling the Output of the Red Harvest Tractor Factory #8!!!!" was a beautiful little film, all four hours of it. Great rainy day treat, if your work militia collectively owns a dvd player.

Although tempting, I'll probably refrain from purchasing the books. After all, why support a regime that threatens the world with war?

Featured Artist: Adorable Aries

It seems that every time I visit the Water color painting lovers forum, I'm always in for a treat! Today's featured artist is Adorable Aries from Pakistan who has some incredible art displayed over in her album.

Here are a few photo's displayed below, although you'll have to visit her album in order to check out the rest of them.

(Note: In order to respect copyright laws, original photos were not uploaded)

Aries may be a little shy as she provided no photo displaying her identity, although she does enjoy playing cricket and hockey (the latter of which can be pretty fierce). Aries also enjoys reading poetry, watching TV and sleeping (don't we all?) and not to mention anything dealing with art.

She has even more paintings on her album, although she has reached the maximum number of photo's allowed on Orkut (perhaps she should switch towards Picasa's Web Album). Hopefully we will be able to catch more paintings from Aries and I wish her all the luck in the future with her artistic talent.

Update: I almost forgot! Don't forget to visit her scrapbook and let her know how well she did painting those images.

Featured Artist: Ingrid-Silvia Erikson

While I've been busy updating Orkut Cute, I came across some oil paintings by Ingrid-Silvia, who is eagerly seeking feedback regarding her work.

Ingrid is from Estonia (a very cold place--at least to us Americans) and she does not describe much about her life on her profile (she may be shy). Ingrid has thus far published several of her works to her album, and hopefully we will be able to get some more images down the road. Here are two of her paintings below.

(Note: In order to respect copyright laws, original photos were not uploaded)

I am not all too familiar with oil paintings, but from what I can gather they seem to be much harder to conceive than say regular drawings with color. Either way I am impressed by these two paintings, and hopefully she will find a job somewhere where she can paint this stuff all day.

Featured Artist: Babrus

Babrus (over in the Drawing forum) shows off his talent by pointing users towards his album. An avid drawer of Anime, Babrus has a unique gift of not only drawing surreal characters but also adding life to them via color (a hard thing to do while sketching or drawing).

My favorite images are Dark scythe (at the bottom left hand corner) and Warcries!! which you can not see displayed below.

(Note: In order to respect copyright laws, original photos were not uploaded)

Babrus has a talent and hopefully we will see it used in an Anime film someday (or perhaps even in a surreal one like Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within).

Be sure to check out his other photos outside of Orkut and be sure to scrap him and provide feedback on his work.

Featured Artist: Adarsh Sharma

Over in the Water color painting lovers forum, Adarsh Sharma alerts members about some incredible sketches that he has drawn and placed over in his album.

Since Orkut is all about "staying beautiful," I thought it would be nice to display some of that beauty that members are able to etch on a piece of paper.

Here is some of Adarsh's art work below:

(Note: In order to respect copyright laws, original photos were not uploaded)

Adarsh also has some more artwork over at his personal site. Worth viewing for those who have an artistic eye.

The True Face Of Evil

Babrus, over in the Drawing forum is looking for suggestions on ways for him to improve his images. (which you can see here and here).

The first one, entitled "The True Face of Evil" is okay, although the second one (Sarah the young...) is better in my opinion.

Note: Unrelated, but if you want to check out some cool images online, Vision Afar is where it's at. This image reminds me of a Russian friend of mine.

Are You Into Indian Art?

If so, Anish over in the Business in China forum has a proposition for you.

I am a business manager of IAP, India basically deals in selling paintings and arts of indian artists locally and oversees.. we are looking forward for expanding our business. Anyone interested in purchasing paintings and indian arts or for any kind of busienss dealing can mail me on

Note: Gmail signature added to thwart spammers.

Sounds pretty cool, although I wish he had some links displaying images of the art he intends to sell, as I have no clue what exactly is "Indian art."

Random thought: With all of the people selling items on Orkut, perhaps they should establish an "Ebay" like system in order to keep the server from dying periodically.
