I tend to go mostly with location & tourist related names - real estate - property - hotels - I have got others ie - phone/mobile related - language related - transport - loans - bmx bikes - whisky etc.
Have'nt really got in to any tech type domains yet but always looking..
Dubai related domains, hoping them to get some value in the future, and slowly developing one-by-one to get some benefit already...
I hoard 3G domains personally. But I have extensive knowledge in the casino/poker market. Thus, I rarely buy in this area as most names not in use are just a total unbrandable waste of money and in this very competitive sector, branding is everything...

I like buying Japanese word domains. Not IDNs, but just the romaji versions...
I am not a pro in this field but out of 20 domains I own, I have a variety from blogs, HostGator names, directory names, forums and hosting related domains. I try to cover the entire range of topics, most of the times, it comes out of idea that I want to develop...
Development and brandable names aswell as names with backlinks...
I always try to buy with a plan and rarely buy anything I wouldn't want to develop if I have the time.. as such, I don't specialize, I just don't buy what I don't need...
