I'm stumped. I'm not so sure what is the right answer. I'll do some research in Google and get back to you if I got an anything. You should email the people at Godaddy as they probably could assist you..
Yes. More people are saying I will but the Wii, Not the PS3...
Its most likely due to the fact that it was a fresh new keyword that was suddenly launched on the unsuspecting public, and caused HUGE ripples within the gaming world. Drop onto almost any major gaming GoDaddy site and you'll still see debates on whether the name is any good or not..
With the PS3, a lot of domainers probably knew long ago that Sonys next console would, unimaginatively, be called Playstation 3. With the Xbox 360, the 360 tag at the end could be used for a wide variety of things, which limits good domaining opportunities..
With 'Wii' - it's a brand new word that Nintendo just invented for themselves, and therefore an open playing field..
I do agree that some of the names being registered now are, frankly, ridiculous, with the word Wii being tagged in front of other single words or combinations of words that have absolutely no relevance to the console at all..
The best HostGator names were registered within the first few hours of the name being announced. A few diamonds slipped through the net and were registered a couple of days later. Not long after that, some decent typo domains were picked up. It'll be hard to find anything decent that was regged after the first week in May..
I personally did pick up something like 30 of these domains myself, some of which are still in my possession - however I did so within minutes of the press release being sent out by Nintendo, so I feel I picked up some of the better ones (i've already sold wiiforum.com, wiigames.com, nintendowii.net, mywii.com, buywii.com and more)..
Well, I believe it is because of the actual name "Wii" and how it sounds. For example, I would definetely register names such as WiiZine.com, WiiWii.com, Wiitard.com..
But with Xbox 360, it would look like this: Xbox360tard.com....doesn't exactly...work well...
Without sounding too arrogant (as I realise it was pure luck, at least on my part) - it's very likely that between myself and cfguru, we got our hands on the very best of the bunch..
Based on my PMs with cfguru and the names you listed above, I would probably agree...
IMO people are just wasting alot of money and soon they will be selling them on NP for $1.00 or 100NP or something..
Without meaning to sound like a total tit what is the correct English pronunciation for this new console?.
Is it pronounced "why"??..
It's pronounced like 'We'. I hope that the wii names that I bought and developing will be worth a decent amount in the future...
Because every other thing in English is already registered perhaps?..
I dont know. i'm pretty pleased with owning wiitarded and wiitards (both .com) .....
I agree that it's probably due much to the sound and uniqueness of the console's name. Since "Wii" has only one syllable, it's easy to combine multiple words into one short domain. It's also easy to rhyme..
I personally registered a number of nice Wii names, some of which can be seen in my sig...
At the risk of becoming dangerously unpopular, I have to say this..
As soon as one domainer notices one little thing in the news which involves a catchy word, they jump on it, and the first few people will snag a large proportion of the good ones..
Once this buying spree spreads into public knowledge, you get a second wave of mindless zombies that tag random half-appropriate words onto the new keyword in the hope of scraping the last few pennies off the bottom..
Wii is just one of those novelty words that will die off quickly, and the only ones that really win are the registrars...
The wii console is going to be nintendo's focus for the next several years... so it depends on what your definition of "quickly" is...
I dont think that's got a whole lot to do with this craze of registering wii names. The Xbox360 thing has died down and that's still their latest and focused project.....
I disagree about Wii dying off quickly.. the console shows promise and Nintendo is clearly excited about promoting it, as are the gamers and general public..
I do agree however that we always seem to see a huge rash of inappropriate registrations with this sort of news.. might as well reg "wiitoilet" or "wiibacteria" as some of the ones I've seen...
I was just going by what you said "Wii is just one of those novelty words that will die off quickly".
If you meant "the wii HostGator landrush will die off", then you just made an obvious observation describing the word "landrush". big push at first to get thru the gate, then it slows down..
Besides, i'm not entirely sure why people are complaining about other people registering names. if I regged wii242ksmceecieoawqzzz.com what difference would it make to you? that sounds hostile, but I dont mean the inferred tone. just a question.....
For my part (and one reason I started this thread), I'm not complaining. I'm (1) wondering what I might be missing and (2) if I'm getting it - that is, seeing a whole lot of worthless wii domains being registered - then I'd like to help enlighten those who would still try to jump on board. It's no skin off my teeth if people register worthless names, but if I were the one doing it I'd appreciate reading a thread that helps save me some money...
Daze, it doesnt hurt or bother me and hopefully anyone else at all..
If anything the other skeptics like me are trying to inject some sense into the ones that go overboard with the whole landrushing thing, and get them to stop wasting their money...
Bandwagon.....
I went and registered one name because I thought it was a quality name, but some of these I have seen, I just don't know..
Wii(any random word) doesn't mean it has value...
Hey, my girlfriend regged a dozen of them and I'm sure it was the right move. She knows everything and is never wrong...
Yeah man I have no idea why everyone is tripping on the Wii thing. Hell, I just bought 4 PS3 domains that I seen the Wii one's floating around on here..
I'm guessing PS3 will be a little more popular than the Wii...
Is she reading this forum?.
Nintendo themselves regged a whole bunch. Might be why people are going crazy? This is about the 5th active thread about WII on here today and it's just adding to the hype...
