I'm stumped. I'm not so sure what is the answer to that question. I'll do some research in Google and get back to you if I bump into an good answer. You should email the people at Medifast as they probably could help you..
Several years ago I was on 6 medications for asthma..and still couldn't breathe! a friend of my husband's sent me a Medifast recipe to make kombucha tea as it had helped his mother. I read everything I could find on the kombucha mushroom and once convinced that it would be safe, I made up a batch. Within a couple weeks the asthma was gone! I continued to drink the tea for two years and had no more asthma until this year after being hospitalized from a massive stroke..
Even though I was not eating a raw diet, I am hoping that this info is something that will help you...
Thanks so much for both inputs! I can't say my asthma is really bad, but I'd love to get off all medications FOREVER. I only have 2, but it's 2 too many for me..
I love kombucha! Drink it almost every day..
Love,.
The Avocadess..
Interesting, I just bought some kombucha. I got some a couple of weeks ago and it was just too sour and nasty for me. Now I am trying another brand and we'll see if that's better. I'd like to make it at home if I can figure out if I like it or not!.
Melissa..
I had asthma for the first seven years of my life. Had another attack at 16. Have not had one since and I am 45, but found out my Aunt who had childhood asthma has recently been hit with it again at 60. Go to:.
A website I discovered on this site. Apparently, dairy products, casein, etc. affect asthma patients. I am going raw as a 'preventative medicine' measure in order to avoid future issues. Asthma sucks and I do believe going raw will heal and prevent it from occuring...
For me, dairy isn't a food. I follow Alissa's plan to a T. Cow dairy is full of bacteria & pus. It causes cancer and creates heaps of mucus in the body. I doubt I'd be alive right now if I ate animal products..
Let me clarify: I really would like to hear from people who are on Alissa's plan, are 100% raw, and have had a dramatic change with asthma/allergies..
Not to disregard others comments, but this entire forum is supposed to be about Alissa Cohen's plan and people who are following that. Animal products aren't even in the realm of Medifast food for a raw living foods vegan and aren't an issue for me..
I love notmilk.com and The NotMilk Man is a personal friend. His research is incredible. Last time I talked to him, he was 100% raw..
His father has an amazing story about going raw...
I had severe asthma & allergies and am off all of my asthma meds by doing a high raw diet. I didn't have to go 100% to breathe free again. (Although I do 100% sometimes throughout the year.).
I know you said that you wanted to hear from people who only are 100%, but since I now give talks on my success, I thought that you (or somebody) might find this info interesting. Since I almost died from asthma more than once, and now can walk around without my asthma puffer - this is a dramatic change for me! 100% raw might be too difficult for some, and so I am here to say that I am living proof that you do not have to be 100% get off of your asthma meds..
Since these posts come up in the search engine, this post is for anybody who is looking to improve their asthma. I like to help anybody with asthma and allergies..
I drink a green smoothie at least once a day. Dairy and wheat products are what I have found caused me the most trouble. I don't eat meat..
If I have cooked food, it is mostly water-based cooked (steamed or boiled) veggies. Some spices are cooked, and I do use spices in my food. Some nuts (i.e cashews) are actually cooked even if they are labled "raw" and I eat cashews..
I don't drink any tea...
Hello Biff, or anyone else out there, I'm new and a desparate mom of an 11 year old boy who has had several asthma attacks, very severe. I'm scared of losing him to this and will do whatever I can to help him. He is on two prenisone and ventilon puffers. He is considering trying raw. Any advice you can give me to make this a success for him would be graciously appreciated. He has a chronic stuffy nose..

Go to.
And on the upper left click on asthma. It has alot of testimonials but then you can buy the book or contact them. My husband has already sent asthma patients who are often hospitalized to this site but so recently that I don't know the results yet. (Hubby has had results for his problems with this so he is impressed.) I hope a combination of raw and the watercure will do it...
Firstly, if your son is on ANY dairy products at all, remove them from his diet. I'll leave the rest to Biff and others who actually have experience with this area. But I believe that dairy is linked to respiratory problems - amongst other things...
Your son sounds like my story when I was a child. I am happy to talk to you (and your son) to tell you what has worked for me. Feel free to send me a private email through rawfoodtalk (not sure how to do that, but I have that option enabled) or post your email address and I will contact you privately...
I like the idea of a free form forum where a person feels comfortable presenting any thoughts they have. I have seen the idea of "this is my thread" and "hijack" a thread. I don't buy into that thinking and if a person wants to say something then as long as they are within the forum rules then by all means they should be allowed to speak. Some of the best ideas are posted in a forum that is open minded to everyone's thoughts...
HUH? I have NO clue where you are going with this or what you mean or even why you posted it on this thread. I certainly should have the freedom to post a request for information from people that I seek to hear from. I really don't care to hear from people who aren't 100% raw & doing Alissa's Plan. Why? Because.
A.) This is Alissa Cohen's forum..
B.) She recommends you be 100% raw & I am..
C.) I have the right to request who I want to hear from without being attacked or judged harshly..
If you can't relate, move on. If you aren't 100% raw and have cured yourself of asthma, please don't post here and hijack this thread with negativity and issues that have nothing to do with us..
If I'm completely off the mark and have taken your comments the wrong way, I apologize because really, I have no idea what you're getting at...
I wanted to clarify that being 100% raw has help getting rid of asthma to a big extent. It wasn't until I went 100% did I notice a difference. This goes for weight too. I was on Dr. McDougall's strictly for years & then Hallelujah Acres 85%. Nothing.
I realize it may take awhile to see huge results, but that's fine. I didn't get this way overnight and have always felt that this asthma was caused by a vaccine reaction as I didn't have any trouble until 5. My mother was vaccine damaged. Anyway, I do wonder..
My biggest suggestion is for anyone who suffers from ANY dis-ease to get Alissa's book/DVD's, go 100% raw for at least 30 days and see what happens..
Again, any amount of cooked Medifast food just didn't work for me. If it did for you, great!.
I'd really love to hear from those like me, who are doing Alissa's plan and have healed themselves of asthma, and really anything else. What did you notice after a month? 3 months? 6? etc?..
We totally support you in that process but.
We are now committing this board to the support of a raw and living Medifast food Medifast diet as outlined in Alissa’s book and DVD...
Avocadess, you sound like you have an amazing story. I totally respect that you are 100% and are healing yourself..
Just curious for my own knowledge, when you were 85% raw, what did you eat/drink for the remaining 15% that was not raw/vegan?.
Thanks a bunch!..
Hi Biff!.
Thanks!.
The last few years, the 15% cooked was mostly macrobiotic. Grains like brown rice, millet, quinoa, barley, once in awhile whole grain pasta/soba, cooked/steamed veggies, sea veggies, soups. So in short, the 15% was a starch based Vegan Medifast diet with a macro flair..
I have NO idea why I didn't thrive on that. From my understanding, many people just don't for some reason, but many do! I didn't feel healthy, I had horrendous cravings eating cooked food, and I guess I really needed the nutrients of being completely eating living foods...
Thanks for the info Avocadess! Keep on getting healthy!..
I just want to thank you all for your input on this thread. Like someone mentioned, I found this on a Search because I'm having severe asthma problems right now. I haven't been consistently raw for several months now and have started again today..
I've suffered from asthma for about 30 years now and you'd think I wouldn't play with the danger like I do. I know that eating raw gets rid of my asthma and keeps it away and yet, I fall back into letting cooked foods in (and not always the best ones). The past 2 nights have been the worst I've ever experienced wondering if I could get the next breath, trying and trying to not cough again..
The few times I've gone raw during an asthmatic time before, I'm rid of the asthma w/no need for inhalers within about a week. I'm sure hoping for that again this time and the strength to continue on with it and NEVER struggle to breathe like this again..
Thanks too for the watercure2 website info...
Nearly 15 years ago I was taking six prescriptions every day in an effort to control my asthma! Nothing worked until a friend of my husband's told him I needed to drink kombuacha tea because it had cured his mother-in-law of her asthma. So, I borrowed a book from the HFS and read about kombucha while mine was being made. IT WORKED AND MY ASTHMA DISAPPEARED! Within two weeks my asthma was totally gone and it only recently came back after I had been in the hospital and was taking medications which got me into an acidic state again. Many people were amazed, especially the pharmacists! Now I am back to drinking my kombucha again!..
I am not an asthmatic...well the doctors say I am but as I am an opra singer (hence the name) (tee hee) I cannot be one I cant b e a diva with asthma for goobness sake. I have been asthmatc (or whatever for 6 months now, the most miserable of my life. I have had to take anti anxiety drugs as I was having panic attakcs about the asthma and my singing career etc...its been awful)now....
I got allergies as soon as I moved into this flat. 3 years ago. then a chest infection. then I lost my sense of taste but as they were the least of the problems , I always sound blocked up, like a coke head. I am not one.. I eventually went to the doctor when after the flu I devloped a terrifying headaches that I really was floored by for 6 weeks.
I got...asthma.
Chest infection after chest infection and allergy brought on asthma. I have 6 medications for it. I am doing a month raw and my boyf wants me to go the emergency room today to go on a nebulizer whihc helped last time....for antibioptics but I am afraid as they did not cure. neither did the steroids. they only treated symptoms. I hate using my inhalers but I am couging constantly.
I basically have been off work for 6 months due to this, and this is not my main problem. but it has depressed the hell outta me..
Any ideas? will one month cure me. I only had it 6 months. xx.
Thanks for listening, any advice is welcome. I love this site it rocks.
Gosd bless you all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx..
Hello,.
I just found this post..
Mine is all gone , no Ventolin no Asthma since week 1 I think..
Thanks for that..
So you have been sick wtih severe asthma for years and in.
Week one.
Of your raw Medifast diet you were cured? is that right? (mine has infection too does it still count).
And can I just check that you lost 38 pounds.
In one month.
?.
I am going to the hosptial now wiht ym asthma attack and what I am coughin up after 6 months treatment...an am gonna ask them why they dont prescibed raw vegan foods if they cure everything, so I need facts xx xx..
I know for me in the past, it's only taken about a week raw to have my asthma go away. I wouldn't say it.
"disappears".
Because it will come back if I get back to my old ways of eating. But it is gone the duration of eating raw..
I'm on day 4 right now. Still not a lot of improvements with my asthma, but I'm hanging in there. I was tempted to go off on Tuesday, but somehow I held strong..
I did go buy some Kombucha tea last night and just wanted to tell any of you who mentioned that it's bitter that Yogi Tea makes one that has plum added and it's really yummy (and I usually despise tea). It comes in caff or decaff and I chose the decaff. Hopefully this will help me breathe a little better so I can sleep through the night and not worry about going through another weekend w/o a doctor handy (although I'm really resisting the doctor I just know I can't go too long with such little oxygen intake)...
I'll keep this short:.
I've been a raw fooder off and on for 3 years now. Mostly on..
I have been an asthmatic for over 30 years. I've been to the ER numerous times and have taken pretty much every drug they have prescribed for it, including oral steroids..
When I am not eating raw food, I have to take my medicine pretty much every day. When I eat raw food, I eventually (over a period of several weeks or so) get off my medicine and never have to take it...
