My first question is Who is cheapest Godaddy domain name registrar for .com extension (less than $5)? Thanks in advance for any response. My 2nd question... Just want to share a little success story..

About three years ago I got interested in barcodes. What are these things and how the heck do they work? Ended up learning everything I could and writing a unique piece of software to decode coupons, a fine example of reverse engineering. Eventually built a website around it -.

- the decoder if free for everyone and it's a main draw to the GoDaddy site (800 average daily uniques, 8000+ member forum), but it's not the point of this story..

The developer in me somehow strangled the domainer in me (who would anybody want CouponDecoder.com anyway, I'll get it later, I thought) and I launched the site. When I finally woke up ("hmm, this thing is getting popular") and went to reg the HostGator - guess what? Gone! Who? A bitter competitor who has nothing to do with barcodes, but runs a deal site. Oh well, I thought, I have no one to blame but myself. It's a fair game. Dealideal.com shows as #1 out of 142,000 Google results for "coupon decoder" anyway. I put it on a backorder and started gathering info about the squatter..

Long story short - I finally got the name today..

Don't make my mistake people - Have an idea - get the name(s), don't wait, you might not be as lucky as I am...

That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the answer. I'll do some investigation and get back to you if I discover an anything. You should email the people at Godaddy as they probably could help you..

Snoop. No offense, but I think you're imagining things..

Go re-read my post. I'll give you $100 for every instance where I said (or even suggested) that I have "any kind of right" to the name..

Seriously. What I did say is ".

Fair game.

". I goofed by not registering it, someone else got it. Good for them. They goofed by not renewing for whatever reason, I got it. Good for me. THAT IS ALL...

More people don't read all the words....

For example, cdboard... To answer you, Midano wrote "I put it on a backorder". It's like that he gets the name....

Congratulations Midano to take back the name.

I got the same kind of story last month. I had an idea, I check the name, it was free, but next days, a well known NPer register the name.

I thought myself stupid... but so after think about that, I bought the name using NP$ at correct price.

I don't want to disclose the name. But you're right Midano, it's a good lesson. When you have an idea, get the name !..

Cool story. and this thread promotes your GoDaddy site too! two birds and one stone meet...

"for a name like coupondecoder.com? how on earth is that "cybersquatting"?, I hope you don't complain next time you get labelled with this tag..

First - "Coupon Decoder" is the name of the software and the essence of what it does..

Second - TM application was submitted and is being processed..

Third - I don't complain and I never have. I said myself that it's a fair game.".

"The other side of cybersquatting".

//////////////////////////.

Isn't it pretty clear that you are suggesting this person was cybersquatting?..

You're twisting your own words..

"Cybersquatting" and "having any kind of right" are two very different things...

I was thinking about registering namepros.com but someone beat me to it..

Great advice, glad to see you got the name in the end!..

Different things? cybersquatting means owning a HostGator which infringes upon the trademark rights of another...

Alright... Then tell me this. Does the guy with last name Nissan have a right to nissan.com?..

Lol, I hope everyone gives up their names.... someone stole my name as a HostGator and it just redirects to some spyware thingy.... I want my name back !!! lol..

Good advice, nice to see you ended up with the name...

Lets keep the discussion on track..

I can see the problem here, it appears you were not aware of the correct meaning of "cybersquatting". There is no such thing as cybersquatting that doesn't infringe on another's rights, by very definition of the word...

It's not so simple, taken in context..

I did read the words. Here they are:.

I put it on a backorder and started gathering info about the squatter..

Long story short - I finally got the name today..

1) he gathered info about the squatter..

2) he calls him a squatter..

3) there is a long story. he doesn't say what it is. "it expired and I regged it." is a short story..

4) he submitted a TM application..

Read all the words. whether he snapped it with a backorder, or hand-regged it isn't important..

While it.

May.

Be simple,.

At the time I posted my question.

, there was some context to consider..

..

..

..

..

..

..

Midano, did you contact the owner of the domain?..

Well done on getting your perfect doman anyway..

Kind of a sad story rather than a success story, but as long as the "He who laughs last laughs best" principal is there.....

Yes, I did..

I didn't play games and I told her (it was a woman) straiht who I am. I didn't threaten with legal action or anything, just offered $xxx, but that didn't work out very well..

The name was dropped eventually, so my backorder picked it up..

As for gathering info - I just wanted to know who I'm dealing with. She has a bipolar personality disorder, her husband just left her, and she had money problems. Totally messed-up, so, yes Shorty, this is kinda sad...
